.Having hosted Northwood University’s production of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” last month, SPAC now begins its 2010 season with Tom Stoppard’s one act farce that parodies theatre critics and Agatha Christie whodunits. Two self absorbed theatre critics, Moon and Birdboot, attend a theatre production of what is supposed to be a whodunit. The mystery is set at an inaccessible English manor, with a mysterious young man, a crippled major, a maid, and the lady of the house and her high-strung young friend. As the play evolves, the two critics discuss professional points of the production but often veer off-track into their personal obsessions. With the arrival of Inspector Hound at the manor, it appears that the play is following the typical whodunit. However, events beyond that point make the play anything but typical.
