Up-and-coming Canadian mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford sings the role of Pauline in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades at the Metropolitan Opera in March. Mumford also performed in Das Rheingold and Nixon in China, as well as in Ariadne auf Naxos and The Magic Flute at the Met. The Queen of Spades, based on a short story by Alexander Pushkin, had its world premiere in St. Petersburg at the Mariinsky Theater in 1890.
The powerhouse quartet of Karita Mattila, Dolora Zajick, Vladimir Galouzine, and Peter Mattei brings Tchaikovsky’s great drama to life.
