Do you know that almost 75 percent of news stories come from press releases? How often do small businesses and independent professionals send out a press release? Not so often, is my guess. An opportunity missed? Perhaps, yes.
It is relatively easy and inexpensive to write and distribute a press release. In the worst case, nothing happens. In the best case, you have free publicity.
Topics that I will cover in this workshop:
- When can a small business owner or indie benefit from a press release?
- What makes a story newsworthy?
- How do you write a press release?
- To whom do you send a press release?
- How do you develop a media list that makes sense to your business?
This workshop is relevant for any indie or small business owner who has a story to share with the world, now or in the future. Examples are, but not limited to: you will open a spa, store, or catering service, publish a book, reach a milestone in your business, launch a new product, decrease your prices dramatically, support a local community activity, or expand your business.
I gained my insights in the power of the press release during the last ten years when I worked as PR representative and director of Marketing and Communications for different organizations. In my current work as consultant, I help small businesses identify newsworthy stories and communicate those through a press release.
