In August and early September of 2006, The Main Gallery is presenting a show of poetry inspired art titled “The Poetic Image” which will run from August 9 th to September 10 th. The idea for this show came from the use of the gallery as a meeting space by the Not-Yet-Dead Poets Society, a group which meets every first Wednesday at the gallery to listen to a featured reader and share their own verse. Some of the art in the exhibit is the result of collaborations with poets of this group. Other gallery artists have chosen to create art work inspired by favorite poem by other living poets or the published poets of history.
The public is invited to attend a reception for the artists and poets on August 13 th from 4 to 7. At the reception, poets from The Not-Dead-Yet Poets Society will read from 4:30 to 6 and there will be an open mike from 6 to 7. Besides the spoken verse, there will be lots of good things to eat and drink and an opportunity to read the poems that have inspired the artists and see the resulting work. So many senses satisfied!
