Produced by Cadence Theatre Company, in partnership with Virginia Rep’s Theatre Gym
With echoes of Stoppard, Kafka, and the Brothers Grimm, McDonagh’s dark comedy, The Pillowman centers on a writer in an unnamed totalitarian state who is being interrogated about the content of his short stories. The result is an urgent work of theatrical bravura and an unflinching examination of the very nature and purpose of art.
Awarded the 2004 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play, the 2005 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Foreign Play. Nominations include the 2004 Evening Standard Award for Best New Play, the 2005 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and the 2005 Tony Award for Best Play.
