Rivaled in fame only by the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine of Jacob Waltz, the mysterious and enigmatic Peralta Stone Maps, believed by many to be treasure maps to a vast fortune in Gold, will soon make their return to the Superstitions Mountains.
On June 25, 2009 the Peralta Stones will go on display at The Superstition Mountain/ Lost Dutchman Museum, in Apache Junction, Az.
They are on loan from the Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum Foundation who in the past has only displayed for a few days a year at their annual Flagg Gem and Mineral Show.
Let us tell you a little about the Peralta Stones.
Back about 60 years ago, a vacationing Oregon tourist stopped his car along Queen Creek, just a short distance north of Florence Junction. While strolling out into the desert to get a better look at the mighty Superstitions Mountains, he stumbled across a set of stone tablets buried in the sand.
They were covered with strange markings, noted in Spanish and dated 1847.
Maps to a destination of such importance that it was carved in stone.
Come see for yourself.
