Welsh rock icons, Stereophonics return to Singapore on April 30, 2010 and Stereolounge is proud to host the Official After Party.
Formed in Wales in 1996, the band has sold over 9 million records and just released their seventh studio album titled “Keep Calm and Carry On” (Universal Music). The album features the memorable new single ‘Could You Be The One’ written by Kelly Jones and produced by Kelly with Jim Abbiss (Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys).
The new album is packed with 12 gems of intelligent, sharply crafted, melodic storytelling, which has taken the band in some surprising and extremely enjoyable new directions. “Stereophonics’ best yet,” said Sunday Time Culture in their 4 star review, while the News Of The World declared it’s “Their angriest, most up-for-it record in years.” The record is stripped back without the walls of loud guitars, creating a space to drive home Kelly’s vocal while allowing the strength of the songs to come through - fused with Kelly’s bar-raising musical vision, Javier Weyler’s intense drumming, Adam Zindani’s cascading guitar lines and Richard Jones’ driving bass.
Described as "classic UK rock delivered with whiskey vocals," the band have been summarised as possessing a sound akin to the genres of alternative rock and "British traditional rock." Stereophonics' debut album, Word Gets Around, was released in August 1997 and instantly charted at number six in the UK, aided by the singles "Local Boy in the Photograph", "More Life in a Tramps Vest" and "A Thousand Trees", all of which failed to affect the top 20. The band reached mainstream success with the release of Performance and Cocktails (and its promotional singles "The Bartender and the Thief", "Just Looking" and "Pick a Part That's New") in 1999 and have achieved a total of ten top-ten singles as well as one number-one: 2005's "Dakota". The band have also been praised for their live performances, which have landed them headlining slots at many of the UK's most high-profile music festivals, including Reading and Leeds in 2000, Glastonbury in 2002, V festival in 2002 and the Isle of Wight in 2004 and 2009.
Last year the band also released their first ever Greatest Hits Album titled “A Decade in the Sun”.
