Now in its sixth year, Eastern Connecticut Ballet's Nutcracker has become a special part of the holidays for families from Connecticut and Rhode Island. This production is a sumptuous jewel, with lush scenery, lavish costumes, and the beautiful sounds of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra and the Griswold High School Chamber Choir.
The production includes a cast of 90 dancers, including students of all levels and professional guest artists of international acclaim. It is a timeless tale of Clara and her enchanted journey from a holiday party, to a swashbuckling sea battle, the land of the snowflakes and the magical kingdom of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Southeastern Connecticut's only non-profit dance arts center teams with members of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra and tremendous guest artists. This year's production will feature international guest artists Arantxa Ochoa and Alexander Iziliaev. Ms. Ochoa is from Spain and Mr. Iziliaev is originally from Russia. Both are now principal dancers with Philadelphia's Pennsylvania Ballet.
