The Neutral Mask -- Expressive Body November 18, 2007

 
A neutral mask is one with an expresssion of balance and receptivity. Its use in theater was pioneered by the late physical theatre master Jacques Lecoq as a learning tool for actors—to help them develop emotional honesty, openness, and economy of movement, and to give them focus while expressing powerful emotions onstage. When we work with masks in a physical way, we un-mask another part of ourselves. In this two-and a half hour workshop, we'll explore how bodies reflect the emotions and stories within.
Presented by The Exploratorium: The museum of science, art, and human perception and led by Denmo Ibrahim, co-artistic director of mugwumpin, San Francisco's award winning performance company, this two and a half hour introductory workshop is geared for both performers and non-performers, interested in exploring a 'neutral state', the state before action. No previous experience required. Please wear loose, neutral colored clothing. Ages 15 years and up.
