Nation’s Triathlon® To Take Place September 14, 2008 in the Nation’s Capital
WASHINGTON, DC -- The third annual Nation’s Triathlon® will take place Sunday, September 14, 2008 in the nation’s Capital. This Olympic distance triathlon includes a 1.5k swim in the Potomac River, 40k bike course through downtown D.C., and a 10k run along Washington, DC’s monumental corridor.
According to Charles Brodsky, founder of the Nation’s Triathlon®, “The Nation’s Triathlon has grown exponentially since our inaugural year and this year we expect a record 2000-3000 participants along an exciting course that offers spectacular views, historic landmarks, and incredible challenges for the novice and veteran triathlete. With the support of the National Park Service, U.S. Park Police and Metropolitan Police, the Nation’s Triathlon® promises one of the premiere courses and triathlete race experiences in the country.”
The race begins from at 7:00am in the scenic East West Potomac Park where swimmers will enter the Potomac and swim upstream on a course that takes them under the Memorial Bridge and back. A spacious transition area facilitates quick transition from the swim to the bike course, which takes competitors along a wide, mostly flat course that loops from downtown DC to the Rock Creek Parkway to the Clara Barton Parkway. The final leg of the race is a 10k run that takes competitors alongside the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, National Mall, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Navy Memorial, Kennedy Center, Korean War Memorial, FBI Building, National Archives, National Treasury, Holocaust Memorial and more.
The finish line will be located on Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the Navy Memorial and National Archives. The awards ceremony is scheduled to start at 10:30am. In addition to the awards ceremony, a Finish Line Festival will offer merchandise and refreshments, as well as entertainment for the whole family.
