Photographers will utilize photography, text, and/or computer/web media to relate a narrative. We will speak about the narrative impact of photographs and the ability of photography to tell a story either as a single image or as a series as well as how a narrative is constructed and developed from one image to the next both as a sequence and as a series, as a group of related pictures and as a linear story. Students will work on projects to construct visual narratives with photographs and web-based imagery.
The first weekend will be spent looking at the work of photographers, artists, and filmmakers who work with the narrative or storytelling structure. We will also review and discuss your work and lastly your ideas for the major assignment of the workshop. Each student will be guided through developing the narrative and the appropriate tools to achieve the “story.” You are strongly urged to bring in a portfolio of work or individual images that relate to this concept. The second weekend will be utilized to critique each participant's assignment in depth and discuss some final ideas that may be helpful in developing each student's project or future projects.
