MOC Productions, Inc. announces the Midwest Premiere of The Mommies – A Musical Blog™ at the Royal George Theatre, 1641 North Halsted St., previewing on Thursday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. An original new musical about “The Bump” and everything that comes after, The Mommies – A Musical Blog™ is a hilarious and poignant glimpse into the joys, sorrows and stresses of modern-day Mommie-dom. The production is written and produced by Jeanie Linders, the writer/producer of the international hit musical comedy Menopause The Musical®. Tickets will go on sale on May 27 at 12pm, and the first 25 mommies who buy tickets will be treated to complimentary mini massages from the Chicago locations of Massage Envy, and chocolate fondue from the legendary Geja’s Café onsite at the theater.
Following the 10-year, 15 country and over 450 city success of Menopause The Musical®, Linders (who is a native of Chicago) has teamed up with Marilyn Kentz and Caryl Kristensen, the stars of The Mommies, the 90’s NBC sitcom, to develop a new musical that speaks especially to texting, blogging, tech-savvy digital age moms who find community with other women online.
Featuring a cast of five, The Mommies – A Musical Blog™, is set in cyberspace where today’s moms seek advice, guidance and even therapy from their fellow bloggers. The production follows moms as they cope with the challenges and wonders of Mommie-dom from the trials and tribulations of trying to conceive, the anticipation of pregnancy, the struggles of postpartum depression, the challenges of dealing with unruly tweens, and the bittersweet time of empty nesting. With pleas for help from the Supernanny and original songs including I’ll Always Be Your Mother and Living in a Warzone!, the musical explores the universal experiences that all mothers share and is an uplifting, fist-pumping celebration of moms everywhere.
“The Mommies – A Musical Blog™ is not only about the joys and the ‘oh, (sigh) joys’ of mothering,” according to Linders, “but it embodies the lifestyles of today’s moms who shop, socialize, share tips, and seeks solace in cyberspace. I saw this show as a Glee for mothers,” she said. “Unlike Menopause in which the music was parodied or re-lyriced, all 15 songs are original and run the gamut from rap to hip hop, pop to country, ballroom to an amazing ballad.” Linders has tapped the talents of the Menopause The Musical® creative team to bring the production to life including Kathryn Conte (Director), Patty Bender (Choreographer), and C. T. Hollis (Music Director, Orchestrator/Arranger).
The production previews on Thursday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. and will open on Friday, July 29 at 8 p.m. at the Royal George Theatre, 1641 North Halsted St. in Chicago. The regular schedule is Wednesday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., Thursday at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $44 to $56 and can be purchased by calling the Royal George Box Office at (312) 988-9000 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
