Writers are gardeners. We sow seeds and cultivate worlds. In this workshop with Elizabeth Statmore, freelance writer and longtime student of Natalie Goldberg, we will focus on process and on developing the material that germinates in the unique soil of our own minds.

Through a combination of in-class writing practice, optional reading aloud with no critique, and brief periods of meditation, we will direct our efforts toward accessing the wild mind within. No previous writing or meditation experience is required, and writers of all levels, genres, and ages (18 and up) are welcome. Course content will vary to accommodate returning students. Bring a fast-writing pen and a notebook and prepare to cultivate the garden of your mind.
Elizabeth Statmore is a freelance writer in San Francisco and a longtime student of bestselling author Natalie Goldberg, with whom she has studied since 1992. Elizabeth writes and teaches using the methods of writing practice as outlined in Natalie’s bestselling books Writing Down the Bones and Wild Mind. A frequent contributor to KQED-FM’s Perspectives series and the founding teacher of writing practice and meditation at Rancho Sanctuario in northern New Mexico, Elizabeth has recently completed her first novel and begun work on a second. She has assisted Natalie in retreats in the U.S. and in Canada and teaches in her lineage.
