The Memory of Water is a big hearted and bittersweet examination of family and memory by one of the UK’s best new playwrights Shelagh Stephenson. This award-winning play comes to Riverside Theatres for six performances only from Tuesday 11 September.
Trapped by a snow-storm in the hours before their mother’s funeral, three adult sisters endure a bickering, humorous and unsettling reunion. There is Teresa, the ‘martyr’ and caregiver, Mary the classic over-achiever, and Catherine the wayward daughter. Deftly balancing moments of hilarity and sorrow, this extraordinary play explores the influence that parents exert on their children’s lives … even long after they have physically departed.
Memory of Water is touring nationally, presented by Critical Stages, supported by Arts NSW and the Theatre Board of The Australia Council.
Winner of the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2000 and voted UK ‘Play of the Year’ in 2001.
