In the second half of this two-part course, we continue our exploration of Wagners version of the epic Siegfried legend, following the heros mature adventures until his early death at the hands of Hagen, the son of Alberich, the creator of the magic and much-coveted Ring. In *_The Twilight of the Gods,_* the fourth and final instalment of Wagners vast tetralogy, *_The Ring of the Nibelung,_* we continue our examination of the accompanying orchestral fabric which unfolds a constantly evolving subtext to the sung narrative. We will also compare Wagners telling of the legend with the anonymous medieval German epic poem, The Lay of the Nibelungs. Details of this event may be subject to change.
