LAST OF THE KNOTTS is 67 year young, Doug Knott’s, first one man show. Long a prolific and well-known poet in LA’s poetry scene, Knott premiered this solo show at The Lounge Theatre in the summer of 2011, at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. He moved it to the Asylum Theatre Lab in the Fall of 2011, having been chosen “Best of the Fest”. He continues its run at Theatre Asylum & Lab, 6320 Santa Monica Blvd, Hollywood. This one hour solo performance, is Doug Knott’s semi-autobiographical, “comi-tragedy” that was chosen BEST OF THE HOLLYWOOD FRINGE, 2011.
South Florida patriarch Judge Knott wanted his only son, Doug, to give him a grandson. However, Doug, now a LA hipster-poet, having taken more than enough childhood abuse from the redneck Judge, aims his metaphorical gun at his father and says, “No way. I am the last of the Knotts.” But… in a twist of Southern Gothic fate, Doug gets his exotic, snake-loving girlfriend pregnant, so that now he must make a life-changing decision: to be or Knott to be… a father. This is Knott a comedy…
DOUG KNOTT has been a performance poet in LA since the early 80s. He produced and emceed his own cult variety show at the Lhasa club, and later had his own nightclub called Famous-Knott on La Brea in Hollywood. As a member of the performance poetry group, the Carma Bums, he toured the Western states in the 90s. He is the author of many poetry books, and several poetry videos he wrote and produced won national awards. He has presented recent work at the Electric Lodge, Highways, and at the Santa Monica Playhouse.
