The Harlem Quartet, praised for its "panache" by The New York Times, is currently the resident ensemble in the New England Conservatory of Music's Professional String Quartet Program. Its mission is to advance diversity in classical music while engaging young and new audiences through the discovery and presentation of varied repertoire, highlighting works by minority composers. The quartet made its acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut in the fall of 2006 at the Sphinx Organization's 10th anniversary gala concert and since that time has performed for the president, on NBC’s “Today Show,” appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Pops, and the Atlanta, Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, National, New World and Pittsburgh symphony orchestras, and performed with Itzhak Perlman.
Each member of the Harlem Quartet, Ilmar Gavilán, violin, Melissa White, violin, Juan-Miguel Hernandez, viola, and Paul Wiancko, cello, is also a seasoned solo artist. For more information, visit www.harlemquartet.com
