The Juan Maclean formed out of the demise of the acclaimed but obscure, gonzo electro-punk band Six Finger Satellite. Juan MacLean, who left the band just before the fadeout, moved from New York to New Hampshire, almost giving up on a music career. Teaching English in a young offenders' institute, he gravitated back to music after receiving CDs of demos by friends James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy. MacLean eventually bought a computer and sampler and started playing and recording again, collaborating with Murphy and Goldsworthy, leading to the release of The Juan Maclean's first 12-inch, !By The Time I Get To Venus.' A full length, !Less Than Human' came in 2005, featuring guest vocals by the LCD Soundsystem's Nancy Whang. Named after Andy Warhol's famous hanger-on, Edie Sedgwick is a bass and drum duo out of Washington, D.C.
