The Jazz Age Preservation Ball to benefit the Byrd Theatre January 19, 2013

The Art Deco Society of Virginia cordially invites you to our inaugural Jazz Age Preservation Ball -- a lavish evening of music, dancing and gaiety celebrating the red hot Jazz Age of the Roaring '20s. We'll be putting on the Ritz as we journey back in time to the days when the band was jumping, pearls were flying and the booze was (secretly) flowing.

Taking place on Jan. 19, at the historic Bolling Haxall House, the evening will showcase a bevy of high-class vintage entertainment. Get ready to kick up your heels and dance your cares away to the fine musical styling and syncopated rhythms of THE JOHN WINN JAZZ ALL-STARS. Do you have two left feet? No problem! Join Rita and Andy as they teach guests how to dance the Charleston!

No 1920's soiree would be complete with out the ladies of the chorus! Don't miss our DANCING DECO DARLINGS perform a spectacular number worthy of Florenz Ziegfeld's stage. Also on hand for your enjoyment, is Richmond's dancing flapper duo, THE GARTER SNAPS. As seen on stage at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, these synchronized sweethearts will enchant and delight you with their feather fan duet.

Taking you back to the days of Richmond's famed Beaux Arts Ball, this event is special because not only are we celebrating a wonderful time in our history, but also because we are raising money for a local Jazz Age landmark, the BYRD THEATRE FOUNDATION.

Built in 1928, the Byrd Theatre is one of the few Grand Movie Palaces remaining today. Adorned with hand-painted murals and a grandiose crystal chandelier, this opulent entertainment marvel has survived the last 80 years largely unaltered in appearance and use. However, time is beginning to take its toll. The theater needs an estimated $5 million in renovations to preserve this majestic theater for future generations to enjoy.

In addition to accepting donations on the theater's behalf and donating proceeds from ticket sales to the Byrd Theatre Foundation, we also will have a silent and live auction during the Ball. So be sure to bring your checkbooks!
