Honoring Barbara Miller with the Volunteer Service Award and Judge Trina Thompson for Community Service.
Barbara Miller is a long-time community activist, having served on many non-profit boards and volunteered extensively in Oakland Public Schools. She served on Lincoln's Board of Directors from 1986-1992 and chaired the Community Relations & Planning committees while also serving on Finance, Program, Resource, and Nominating Committees. We are grateful for her service and honor her as a consistent voice in our community for the needs of the most vulnerable.
Judge Trina Thompson is the kind of Judge who buys alarm clocks for her clients, makes sure they keep their court dates, and gets kids to school on time, and takes personal interest in making sure the families who pass through her court are cared for in visible and practical and deeply compassionate human ways. She was the first African American woman judge elected in Alameda County back in 2002, and currently handles felony trials and truancy.
