Premiere Theatre & Performance (PTAP) will present the first annual concert reading series in affiliation with five foreign consulates throughout the Chicagoland area. The International Voices Concert will begin May 7th and run through June 26th with five concert readings of new international plays in affiliation with five Chicago consulates. In collaboration with the Consulates (or their affiliated cultural wings) of Spain, India, France, Japan, and Canada, these one night events will provide audiences the opportunity to experience rarely seen plays while creating opportunities for unknown or lesser known scripts and playwrights to be recognized by Chicago theatrical producers.
Canada’s evening will be held on Thursday, June 17th with a performance of Christopher Morris’ “Night” at the Alliance Francaise of Chicago. The lives of a Toronto anthropologist and 16-year old Inuk girl intersect powerfully during 24 hours of darkness in Pond Inlet, Nunavut. Daniella is a scientist from the big city; Piuyuq is an Inuit girl with big dreams. As the two cross paths, their lives are changed forever. Created over three Arctic winters in Iceland and Nunavut, this work by is presented in Inuktitut and English.
These events are free. For a complete schedule and description of the project, please go to http://www.ptapchicago.org/ivp.
