The eight artistic books presented here are drawn from the collection of the Hirsch Library at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Each example requires interaction from the typically passive reader, demanding that we push, pull, stretch, twist, reconfigure, and even listen to the book. Each artist also upends our expectations of what a book should be by probing the nature of sequence, time, space, and even authorship. Through the originality, playfulness, and conceptual rigor of their creators, these books have been transformed into artistic objects.
