This comedy by Oscar Wilde tells the story of Jack, who faces two problems in his attempt to woo and wed his love, Gwendolyn. First, Gwendolyn has resolved only to marry a man named Ernest, so Jack has led Gwendolyn to believe that his name is indeed Ernest. Second, as a baby, Jack was left in a handbag at a railway station and has no idea who his parents are -- a question of utmost importance to Gwendolyn's mother.
