Telling folktales is a cherished way of sharing traditional values and wisdom with new generations. When relayed by a master storyteller, they captivate with wit, irony and poignancy, while making a point. On Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 2 PM at the Yeshiva University Museum (15 West 16 Street), author Peninnah Schram will interweave folktales from the Sephardic (Middle Eastern) and Ashkenazic (Eastern European) Jewish oral traditions, many found in her new book, The Hungry Clothes & Other Jewish Folktales. Virtuoso singer/guitarist Gerard Edery, an accomplished interpreter of Sephardi song, will join her in this afternoon entertainment. Ms. Schram will be available to sign books after the program. Copies will be available for purchase.
Ms. Schram is an internationally known storyteller and author, as well as a Professor of Speech and Drama at Yeshiva University’s Stern College. Mr. Edery is a world renowned singer, guitarist, composer, and recording artist. They have been performing together for the past 17 years in The Minstrel and The Storyteller. Their multi-cultural repertoire spans many centuries.
This event is suitable for adults and families, recommended for children ages seven and up.
