The Herb Alpert Creative Music Series, CalArts Creative Music Festival September 19, 2008

This season's edition of the storied CalArts Creative Music Festival brings one of the most formidable lineups in the festival's history. Trumpeter, composer, improviser and festival founder Wadada Leo Smith leads two different ensembles: his Golden Quintet, with Vijay Iyer, John Lindberg, Pheeroan akLaff, and Famoudou Don Moye; and the Silver Orchestra, which performs with master baritone Thomas Buckner. Also featuring genre-defying pianist, composer, and improviser Anthony Davis' ensemble, Episteme, featuring Earl Howard, Mark Dresser, and J.D. Parran; the Sufi tradition-inspired Lian Ensemble; and pianist, organist, gospel singer, composer and improviser Amina Claudine Myers in trio with Don Pate, Reggie Nicholson, and the CalArts Choir.
