The Haven and Habitat for Humanity - both offer those they service a second chance. These two organizations will join forces on Saturday, June 25, at Habitat’s ReStore location at 108A Hwy 59 South in Summerdale from 11am to 2pm. The Haven’s mobile adoption unit will bring some of their adorable dogs available for that “second chance” at adoption while the volunteers at Habitat’s ReStore location sell their gently used building materials to generate funds that help give their clients a second chance. Sam Gadd, the ReStore Manager, said her organization thought that the two working together would be a great fit and contacted the Haven’s Mike Graham, Executive Director, for a possible event. “This will be a great opportunity for both of us to learn more about each other’s work and, at the same time, The Haven will be at a new location to introduce our animals to more people,” said Graham.
Since 2000, The Haven has been sheltering and re-homing animals in Baldwin County. As the lead agency for Maddie’s Pet Rescue Project in the county, The Haven’s goal is to stop euthanasia as a form of animal control. “Our volunteers are terrific,” says Graham. “We couldn’t accomplish what we do without them.” As stated on their website, Habitat’s foundation is their Home Ownership Program and they, too, depend on their volunteers to assist low-income families in building homes that positively affect their lives. “Improving families’ lives is the end result we both want to achieve,” says Graham.
