Join us as Dr. Ruth Holmes discusses the history of the harpsichord from its earliest days to its revival in the 20th century. Learn how the early harpsichord developed, how it lost favor to the piano, and how a new generation of musicians rediscovered its grace and charm in the 20th century.

This event is ideal for teachers and students alike, as Dr. Holmes takes you on a journey through harpsichord history using interesting and noted historic musical examples.

About Dr. Ruth Holmes:
For over 35 years, Dr. Holmes has been a part of the music faculty of Lubbock Christian University. During that time she has served as Interim Chair of Communications and Fine Arts, and as President of the Faculty Senate. She has edited Eighteenth Century keyboard music published by Oxford Press and has contributed book reviews to the American Music Teachers Journal.

She has also served as the Chair of Musicology and Early Instruments for Music Teachers National Association, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Texas Music Teachers Association, Chair of Collegiate Affairs for Texas Music Teachers Association, President of the Lubbock Music Teachers Association, as well as a Member of the Board of Directors for Texas Music Teachers Association.

Her commitment to excellence in her chosen profession culminated in 2007 when she was recognized by the Texas Music Teachers Association with the presentation of the Outstanding Collegiate Teaching Achievement Award.

In addition to a busy and committed life as a music teacher, Dr. Holmes has maintained an active role as keyboard performer in addition to recording three solo albums.

Most recently she was a guest lecturer for the Summer Session at Pepperdine University, Malibu, California, where she taught general education classes in music appreciation and piano.
