The Third Annual Green Dream Eco-Friendly Showcase
The success of the Green Dream Eco-Friendly Showcase extends beyond its 4,000+ visitors in attendance and the National Heart of Green Award in 2009. This annual “green” showcase is the product of high school students who want to make a difference in their world, all while honing their marketing and business skills. The 2009-2010 Beachwood High School Marketing/Junior Achievement class is currently working on the third annual Green Dream Eco-Friendly Showcase that will take place on April 16 at the Beachwood Community Center from 1-7 pm. The event is free to the public.
Under the leadership of the marketing teacher, Mr. Greg Perry; Junior Achievement Consultant, Mrs. Karen Carmen from the City of Beachwood; and Mrs. Flo Brett, President of Effective Leadership Academy, the students continue their Mission: “To begin creating a "greener" tomorrow... TODAY. One decision, one person, one day at a time — a plan so simple, it starts with ONE.” The Green Dream Eco-Friendly Showcase was created in 2007 by the Beachwood High School Marketing Education/Junior Achievement class. Twenty students set out to create a public venue where businesses and organizations could show how easy it was to "Go Green". In its first year, The Green Dream attracted over 70 businesses and 2,200 attendees. Now recognized as Ohio's largest eco-friendly showcase, it continues to grow, educate and inspire people throughout the world.
In addition to visiting over 75 eco-friendly businesses and organizations, other highlights planned for the 2010 Green Dream include a paper recycling truck and expired medication drop off. Green crafts, a public eco-art installation, give-aways and a raffle enhance the 2010 Green Dream experience.
A portion of this year’s proceeds will benefit the victims of the Haiti Earthquake by providing clean drinking water. Proceeds from the past two years were used to build America’s Greenest Classroom at Beachwood High School.
