Winner of two Academy Awards, including Best Picture, this 1952 film directed by Cecil B. DeMille, stars Betty Hutton and Charlton Heston and features Emmett Kelly in his famous sad-faced clown character. The movie portrays the dramatic lives of trapeze artists, a clown and an elephant trainer set against the backdrop of the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus. Emmett Kelly lived much of his childhood in Houston, Missouri, and his grandson, Joey Kelly of St. Louis, is also a circus performer. Joey will perform prior to the movie. Our ringmaster for the evening will be KBIA’s Darren Hellwege. Tickets are free and available in advance at The Blue Note and any DBRL facility. Cosponsored by the Blue Note and 89.5FM/KOPN.
