The Great San Francisco City Guides Gold Rush Adventure October 16, 2005

What is it?
It's a kind of a scavenger hunt that will take you to places historic, interesting, unusual or - in some cases - all three! And you'll find them all in the heart of Gold Rush San Francisco - along the bay front downtown.

Why?
It's a fundraising event to benefit San Francisco City Guides, the people who lead free walking tours of San Francisco year 'round.

When and where is it?
The 2005 adventure will be held on October 16th. Check-in begins at 11am at Theatre 39 (on Pier 39), and the Gold Rush Adventure will take place from (approximately) 12:30 pm and end at (precisely) 4:30.

Upon check-in, you and your team will be issued a Gold Rush Adventure Kit including an"official" San Francisco street map, a Clue Book that will lead you to interesting places (an official map marks the area for you) and a Contest Answer Sheet.

Clues use hints that may refer to both San Francisco's past and present. It's NOT a trivia quiz or a history exam. Every puzzle can be solved just by paying careful attention to your map, to your surroundings and by being observant. As you solve clues and find the places, you will also find a clue-word word or phrase to be entered on the Answer Sheet before moving on to the next Clue. All clues can be found within a short walk from public transportation and you will be issued MUNI tokens so that your team can ride from clue to clue, if you so desire.

As soon as your Answer Sheet is complete your team heads back to Theatre 39 to turn in your answers. Be sure to arrive before 4:30 pm! Beginning at 4:30, judges will deliberate to name the San Francisco City Guides Great Gold Rush Adventure Champions.

How to Win!
The team that reaches the Theatre 39 first with proof of having correctly solved the most puzzles (found the most locations and collected the most"answer" words/phrases - see link below for more details) is crowned San Francisco City Guides Gold Rush Adventure Champion!

How can I participate?
Put together a team of friends - from 3 to 6 people makes a productive and manageable team - or we'll put you together with a team on Gold Rush Adventure Day. Suggestion: pull your team together now (hint: call all your friends who are fanatics about San Francisco) and register by September 30th to save $5 a ticket. From now until September 30th, the price is $35. After October 1st: $40. Or you can register the day of the event, $45 per person.
