On Saturday 24 July, The Lord Mayor of Parramatta will host a sumptuous three-course 1800’s style banquet at Riverside Theatres. The dinner is the centrepiece of the State’s Macquarie Bicentenary commemorations and is an official function in the presence of Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, AC CVO, Governor of New South Wales.
Widely acclaimed Sydney chef, Tony Bilson is head chef for The Governor’s Dinner and has designed a menu in keeping with the fashionable high dining of Regency England and Napoleonic France. During the course of evening expect a series of spectacular performances, set within the context of Macquarie’s time but with a contemporary twist.
The evening is a tribute to Macquarie, the man who re-imagined Parramatta, who redesigned and renamed its streets, who gave it a designated marketplace and connected it to the port city of Sydney by constructing the great Parramatta Road.
