The JCC East Bay will host, "The Gourmet Ghetto: A Taste of the Neighborhood" on Thursday, June 28, 2012, the first event of our Summer Food Series. This public event includes a discussion with local panelists including Matt Cohen, Founder of Off The Grid, and Monica Ricchino, Co-Owner of the newly opened, Local Butcher Shop.
The Gourmet Ghetto is home to a wide array of innovative food icons, from Chez Panisse, to the Farmer's Market and food trucks, and is a true playground for taste buds of all palettes. We will hear about how the Gourmet Ghetto gained its reputation and how new businesses are continuing to shape food culture in this neighborhood. The panelists will share evocative stories from their own experiences as business entrepreneurs as well as answering questions about current and past food trends in the Gourmet Ghetto, like why did The Local Butcher Shop recently decided to open its doors on Cedar Street and why did Off The Grid think this area was perfect for its food trucks? The panel will be preceded by time for tasting delicious treats from The Cheese Board Collective and Saul's Deli.
