The Gourds - Patrick Sweany opens February 13, 2009

To us The Gourds are among Austin, Texas’ most dazzling bands, combining great countrified soulful rock sung by their two lead vocalists, a dizzying range of musical styles such as blues, zydeco, country, rock, folk, tex-mex, polkas, tangos, and a songwriting sense that reaches the outermost stratosphere of poetry, whimsy, humor, and just general perfection. Many have drawn comparisons of The Gourds to The Band with their multiple lead vocals, their total grasp of American roots music, their huge talent combined with a sense of fun, and their “ragged-but-right” take on music. They’ve been playing for over a decade in Austin and around the country, and they’ve just release their ninth recording, but it’s only in the past year that the group has been getting wide national attention.
