In his major new study, The Global Cold War: third world interventions and the making of our times, Professor Westad argues that it was not in Europe or the United States where the costs of the Cold War were borne but in the Third World. It is also in the Third World where the bitter legacy of the Cold War can be most readily measured now.
Professor Arne Westad is co-director of the Cold War Studies Centre at LSE.
