As Motown's session band, the Funk Brothers played on virtually every hit single during the label's golden age, spanning from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. In backing Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops and the Temptations, the Funk Brothers played an absolutely crucial role in creating Motown's distinctive, irresistible sound. Their story was finally told on film in the recent critically acclaimed release, 'Standing in the Shadows of Motown.' The legendary studio band of Motown hits the road for a special tour that will feature such guest vocalists as Joan Osborne, Maxi Priest, Bootsy Collins and Darlene Love.
