GEORGE GALLOWAY MP AT THE SENATE PERMANENT SUB-COMMITTEE ON INVESTIGATIONS
17 May 2005
Featuring Woody Allen in the unusual role of 'straight' actor, Ritt's feature is a fictional examination of the consequences of the McCarthyite panic through the experiences of a small-time bookmaker who becomes a 'front' for blacklisted writers. Both funny and moving, the film concentrates on the human plight of those who, rightly or wrongly accused of Communist sympathies, found their lives in turmoil thanks to the House UnAmerican Activities Committee. Together with The Front, we show historic footage of the original 'Hollywood Ten', and a clip of George Galloway MP taking on the USA at his appearance in 2005 before the same Senate committee.
