Toronto Film Society presents it's closing double bill in this series.
COMEDY IN THE KEY OF SCREWBALL
WIFE, HUSBAND, AND FRIEND 1939 dir. Gregory Ratoff w. Loretta Young, Warner Baxter, Cesar Romero
A bright, witty comedy that has Baxter learning he has a good singing voice but that it will compete with his wife's faltering singing career.
JUNE BRIDE 1948 dir. Bretaigne Windust w. Bette Davis, Robert Montgomery, Fay Bainter
Verbal pyrotechnics fly between reporter (Montgomery) and his boss (Davis) as they go off to Indiana to cover a "typical" American wedding. Unusual pairing of Bob and Bette and rumour has it they battled off camera the entire shoot.
Free film notes with each programme. $15 at the door for a trial membership.
