The Eastern Question blends the voices of ancient ethnic woodwinds, percussion and strings with those of cello, acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, and cutting edge software instruments to create a rich and unique musical experience. Their repertoire includes Arabic, Balkan, Turkish, and African music, as well as many original compositions. The Richmond-based ensemble features composer and guitarist Chris Vasi (Monk's Playground, Hotel X) ; genre-bending bowed-strings enthusiast Constance Sisk (Nick Coward and the Last Battle, Rattlemouth, Blue Line Highway) on cello; Turko-Balkan music specialist and belly dance accompanist Geoff Bennett Speer (BALKANIZE!) on darbuka, frame drums, bağlama saz, and kaval; sound designer, modern dance accompanist, and composer Marc Langelier (Rattlemouth) on bass guitar, electro-acoustic percussion, Native American flute, bass recorder, moceno, and sound design.
