This very special night for alumni of the long-standing Musician’s Institute stars two of the most well-known and respected of bands born and bred in Los Angeles. Formed in ’77, the Dickies are the longest-running L.A punk band still recording new material. A blend of early L.A. hardcore and the like-minded Ramones, the Dickies are truly the granddads of American punk-pop, inspiring countless bands from Green Day to the Offspring and beyond. Clever, sharp, musically skilled well beyond most fan’s comprehension, the band never disappoints.
Forming in the late ‘70s and releasing their debut in 1980, the album’s title sums up the Blasters purpose: American Music. Blasting outta Downey in time to coincide with L.A. burgeoning punk rock explosion, the roots-true band found an enthused audience in the punks who wanted it raw and honest. The Blasters have had a long and fruitful career, and have consistently remained true to their rockabilly/blues/country and rock ‘n’ roll foundation.
