Who? Portland, OR-based retro-rockers the Dandy Warhols, fronted by vocalist/guitarist Courtney Taylor-Taylor. As you may recall, the quartet were the focus of the 2004 rock documentary DiG!, which chronicled the tumultuous relationship between the Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. The band's latest record, Earth to the Dandy Warhols, hits stores Aug. 19.
What? A 16-date U.S. tour set to kick off at Minneapolis, MN's legendary venue First Avenue Sept. 9. From there, the Warhols -- with labelmates the Upsidedown and shoegazers Darker My Love in tow -- will pop into Canada for a pair of dates before hitting major East Coast cities and select Midwest outposts. Taylor-Taylor and the gang celebrate the tour's conclusion with a homecoming show Oct. 5.
Should I Go? Sure. The Dandys -- unlike the Brian Jonestown Massacre -- have long been known as a reputable and reliable act onstage, providing for an enjoyable night of catchy, psych-rock tunes. Plus, you never know, the BJM's deranged leader (and Taylor-Taylor pseudo-nemesis) Anton Newcombe could always appear to stir things up.
