A Hollywood documentary film crew arrives in a small island community off the western coast of Ireland circa 1934. In a world where boredom takes on an existential quality, this bitingly funny dark comedy follows the struggle of an outcast who gets his chance to vie for a part in the film.
Anglo-Irish playwright Martin McDonagh has no formal training, but a sheaf of plays he wrote during one long stretch back in 1994 turned him into one of the most celebrated new English-language dramatists of his generation. He burst onto the scene in London in 1997 with a production of The Beauty Queen of Leenane at the Royal Court Theatre, part of a trilogy that would soon be joined that season at the Royal Court by productions of A Skull in Connemara andThe Lonesome West. With the premiere of The Cripple of Inishmaan at the National Theatre that same season, Martin McDonagh (at age 27), became the first playwright since William Shakespeare to have four plays running simultaneously on the professional London stage.
The cast includes Cody Robinson as Billy, Kathleen Davis as Kate, Linda Suttle as Eileen, Art Goodman as Johnnypateen, Rebecca Donnella as Helen, Gregg Dudding as Bartley, Brian Sides as Babbybobby, Eric Ross as Doc McSharry and Chip Winn Wells as Mammy.
