Seeking Program Coordinator for Life-Changing Homeless Children’s Theatre and Education Program

The Actors Theatre Workshop, a non-profit, award-winning off-Broadway theatre and community center, seeks a Program Coordinator for the Builders of the New World (“BNW”) program. BNW , now in its 13th year, is a life-changing after-school theatre, education and mentorship program for homeless children ages 8-12 that improves reading, writing and presentational skills, instills discipline and self-esteem, and teaches the children to practice behaviors, study habits and discipline today to put them on a path to achieve educational success tomorrow.

This is a unique opportunity to take on a leadership role and work closely with Mr. Scott and the Senior Staff at The Actors Theatre Workshop. After completing an application and interview process, the successful applicant will begin training. The training will include intensive, in-depth preparations for our nest session. The BNW Program is undergoing a major reconstruction and the dates are still tentative but the training will begin during the fall. This position will require a commitment of one year.

The Program Coordinator’s primary responsibility will be to assist Mr. Scott. The Program Coordinator will also play an important role in administrating the BNW program. Additional responsibilities will include working with others to: recruit mentors and shelters to participate in the program; supervise the mentor training; coordinate logistics with the staff at the shelters; communicate with the mentors on an ongoing basis; supervise the weekly classes and assist Mr. Scott; partner with top restaurants to arrange the meal donations; catalog the children’s stories and artwork; supervise the program support teams; becoming a contributive member to the ATW staff and producing the final performance and graduation.

The successful candidate should be a passionate, committed, responsible, organized, detail-oriented leader open to learning, and interested in children and the arts. A specific theatre background or previous professional experience working with children is not necessary, but is welcome. This is a volunteer position that will require a commitment of approximately 25 hours per week for one year.
