As a prelude to The Collegiate Chorale’s performance of A Child of Our Time, musicologist and author Byron Adams will speak on Sir Michael Tippett's choral masterwork. The lecture will begin at 6pm on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Professional Children’s School, located at 132 West 60th Street (between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues), followed by a reception. Byron Adams has published widely on the subject of English music of the 19th and 20th centuries. An engaging and entertaining personality, he was Scholar-in-Residence at the 2007 Bard Music Festival, edited Edward Elgar and His World (Princeton, 2007), and has served as President of the North American British Music Studies Association. He is an Associate Editor of The Musical Quarterly and a Professor of Musicology at the University of California, Riverside.
The Collegiate Chorale presents Tippett’s A Child of Our Time and Bruckner’s Te Deum on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 7pm at Carnegie Hall, 881 Seventh Avenue, NYC. The performance features Nicole Cabell, Marietta Simpson, Russell Thomas, John Relyea and the American Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Bagwell.
