Concert Continues Great Music in a Great Space Series
The Cathedral of St. John the Divine will continue the 2012/13 Great Music in a Great Space concert series with a Great Organ: Great Artists performance by renowned organist Thierry Escaich on Wednesday, February 6th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 112th Street), Manhattan.
Thierry Escaich, acclaimed French organist, improviser and composer, will present a program of French music, featuring Marcel Dupré, "Le monde dans l'attente du Sauveur" from Symphonie-Passion; César Franck, Choral No. 2 in B minor; Louis Vierne, "Romance" and "Final" from Symphony No. 4; Olivier Messiaen, Verset pour la Fête de la Dédicace; and Escaich's own Trois esquisses pour orgue (1989). In addition, Escaich will improvise a passacaglia and fugue in Romantic style as well as a set of variations on a submitted melody.
Under the leadership of Kent Tritle, Director of Cathedral Music and one of America’s leading choral conductors, Great Music in a Great Space is a series of public concerts at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine inspired by world musical traditions and the Cathedral’s 100-year history of diverse and exhilarating musical events.
