The Can-Do Kid is a short term instructional program designed to help children ages 9 –12 years old change negative self-talk to positive affirmation, move from dependency to self-reliance, increase confidence, develop social and communication skills, manage emotions appropriately and celebrate one’s giftedness.
The program’s 5 sessions are:
Session 1: I Can Be Me - Making Introductions, Identifying Temperament, Making Choices
Session 2: I Can Talk - Communication Skills, Reading Body Language
Session 3: I Can Feel - Identifying feelings, Managing Emotions
Session 4: I Can Relate - Socialization Skills, Team Building Skills
Session 5: I Can Celebrate Me - Growth through risk taking, Giving/Receiving Affirmation
“Life Skills for Children” will be held at the St. Mary Immaculate Parish Holistic Center, 15727 S. Frederick in Plainfield. Sessions are on Thursdays, February 18, 25, March 4, 11, 18 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. The fee is $175.
Children must make a commitment to the class after the first session or tuition will be refunded minus $35 for first session.
The instructor, Joan Lopina, MS, LCPC, has 34+ years experience, is a Counselor and Psychotherapist, and a former teacher of grades 4-7. Please call 815-439-5642 for more information or to register.
