This course is for those who wish to learn (or re-learn) about Judaism. Interfaith participants are most welcome, as are those new to Judaism and those who were born Jewish and are re-connecting with their Jewish heritage. All will gain new insights in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Students will explore fundamental aspects of the Jewish traditions, customs, and observances. While this is a continuation of the Fall curriculum, students do not have to have taken the Fall semester class before enrolling in this one. Topics include: an overview of the scope of Jewish history from the beginning to the present-day, current Jewish issues of identity and peoplehood, aspects of Jewish culture, music, and literature, and the significance of Israel in the Jewish tradition and today. The students will be invited to participate in a Seder during Passover. Texts will be recommended, and ancillary teaching materials will be given during the course.
