"The Big Beat” Presented By Resurrection Drums November 6, 2011

More than 100 celebrity, professional and amateur drummers in South Florida will make some noise for music education at “The Big Beat” presented by Resurrection Drums. All funds raised during this year’s event will go directly to The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation benefiting music programs in select South Florida local public schools. Recognized as the world’s largest multi-city drum set event, last year’s Big Beat drew 1,653 drummers and percussionists with about 6,000 spectators. It raised more than $54,000 for charity.

This year’s lineup includes Derek Roddy, award-winning top ten drum clinician worldwide; Edwin Bonilla and Eduardo Rodriguez, Gloria Estefan’s Latin percussionists from the Miami Sound Machine; Lil’ Dave Chiverton, drummer for Lauryn Hill and Flo Rida; Omar Tavarez, drummer for Pit Bull, Willie Stewart, former member of the legendary reggae band “Third World”; Lancelot Hall, former drummer from the reggae band “Inner Circle”; and Fushu Daiko, Japanese Taiko drumming group. After their set, Jeff Lee, event organizer and owner of Resurrection Drums, will lead a brief interview session.

At 5:45 p.m., all participants will play the same groove simultaneously as drummers in 15 cities across the nation attempt the largest mass-drumming performance in history. This feat will be achieved through a live-streaming internet connection. Conductors in each city will direct participants to play the same score of music as they follow a live-feed of the lead conductor in Seattle.
