The inaugural season concludes with an opera classic – THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO (Le nozze di Figaro). The 2007-08 production is a follow-up to the company’s next production – THE BARBER OF SEVILLE – in November 2006. The opera opens on the morning of Figaro’s wedding day. Several years have gone by since the action in BARBER, and Count Almaviva has grown bored in his marriage to Rosina. Meanwhile, Figaro is to wed Susanna, but the Count has eyes for Susanna, while Dr. Bartolo would like nothing more than to exact some revenge of his own. The opera is based on the second play of Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais’ trilogy. Sung in Italian, THE MARRIAGE OF FIGARO was first performed in 1786 in Vienna.
