Mastering the Art of Chinese Painting: Xie Zhiliu
Maxwell K. Hearn, Douglas Dillon Curator of Asian Art.
This tour explores a rare trove of studies and sketches by Xie Zhiliu, one of modern China’s leading artists. Participants will discover how, to a surprising degree, Chinese artists relied on preparatory works such as these to create their seemingly spontaneous compositions, revealing how the careful study and copying of earlier models was as much a part of the Chinese artistic tradition as learning from nature.
These intimate tours are led by distinguished Museum curators and have limited availability.
Wednesday, March 3, at 11:00: $300
Luncheon will be served with each tour.
This event is presented in conjunction with “Mastering the Art of Chinese Painting: Xie Zhiliu (1910–1997),” February 6–July 25, 2010.
