“The Art of Resistance” consists of a provocative dialogue with a panel of experts from the black and gay community on Proposition 8. Live political reggae, spoken word, fried chicken and beer served is just some of the unorthodox activities taking place at this event on Saturday. Come out and witness “Art of Resistance” bridge together two influential and conflicting communities into 18th Street’s main gallery on such a controversial issue. It will be an unforgettable event!
Art of Resistance’s panel includes Rev. Dr. Monica A. Coleman, Associate Professor of Constructive Theology and African American Religions at Claremont School; Nerissa Irizarry, Co-President of LMU’s Gay/Straight Alliance; Rev. Dr. Velma Union, CEO of One Light International; Nii-Quartelai Quartey, Community Engagement Advisor, Courage Campaign. There will be live performances from reggae band Dread Daze, poet Imani Tolliver, and soulful singer/songwriter Lillie Russ. DJ Mark Maxwell of 90.7 FM KPFK radio show “Rise” will be spinning a hot international mix.
